My name is Joelle Rosales. I am 17 years old, I am Afro-Latino, born and raised in Houston Texas. I am so excited to be representing Tremaine as the 2020-21 Senior Male Dancer of The Year. I started my dance journey at the age of seven at the George Washington Carver High School for the Performing Arts and trained in all genres of dance. I later joined Dancezone, where I continued to train in all genres of dance under the direction of Sheila Milner. I am very appreciative of her guidance and mentorship over these years and for showing me what it means to be a role model. Moreover, I am most appreciative of my mother, Christina Marcano, who has been there every step of the way, supporting me and encouraging me continuously. I would not be where I am today without her continuous sacrifice and her unconditional love. Dance has played such a big role in my life and has made such an impact not only as a dancer, but as an individual. When I first joined, the Tremaine Performance Company and attended my first city, I had never attended any Tremaine convention prior. After the first day of classes and assisting the faculty, I instantly fell in love with Tremaine and knew that this is something that I will always want to be part of. Tremaine has brought nothing short of amazing memories, new experiences, and the best friendships across the entire United States. It has also changed me in so many ways and allowed me to find myself and have an understanding of what I love to do, such as giving back to the community. Aside from dancing, I am an actor, content creator, photographer, videographer, photo/video editor, and a music producer. It is very hard to manage it all however, it is my passion and I love it, so it’s okay. Haha. I really want to give a big thank you to Mr. Joe Tremaine and the Tremaine faculty, as well as everyone who has supported me in my life, as I am extremely appreciative of this opportunity. I am BEYOND excited to learn, grow, and continue to inspire this year as the 2020-21 Senior Male Dancer of the Year! (It’s ya boy Slater, and I’ll see ya later, SLATER OUT!)
Dance Arts Centre
Jill Rieken, Mollie Sylvestre & Julia Levina
My name is Emelyn Urdahl, and I am 18 years old. I am beyond excited for this opportunity to be able to represent Tremaine as the Senior Female Dancer of the Year this season. This year will be my 16th year dancing, and my 14th year dancing competitively at my studio, Dance Arts Centre, in Chanhassen, Minnesota. I am so thankful for the support that my parents provide and the guidance and training that the teachers and staff at Dance Arts Centre have given me throughout all of my years there. Dance is an important piece of my life along with my academic pursuits. From my first recreational dance class early in my life, dance has remained at the top of my list and will remain there, hopefully my whole life. I have attended many summer intensives throughout the country, am a member of the Company for La Danse Fatale, have attended some college dance events for high school students, and attended Tremaine, this past January, in Kansas City. This next year of dance, with Tremaine and Dance Arts Centre, will be an exciting capstone to my senior year of high school! When I am not dancing, you can find me camping, hiking, volunteering, and spending time with my family and friends. Thank you to Mr. Joe Tremaine and the Tremaine faculty, as I am grateful and honored for this opportunity, as Dancer of the Year. The Tremaine 40th anniversary year tour will be a great one!
Broadway Dance Center
New York, NY
My name is Henry LaGrua, and I am 13 years old. I am so excited to be selected as Male Teen DOTY for the 40th Anniversary Tour! Even though I took my first official ballet and tap class at four years old, my mom says I was dancing before I was speaking. Early on I tried several sports, but the truth was all I ever wanted to do was dance. I train at Broadway Dance Center (BDC) in NYC, under the direction of Allie Beach and study ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, contemporary, acro and this year African! I am so thankful to have found BDC several years ago as they have been the most supportive positive dance environment with amazing teachers and a real family spirit. My first Tremaine convention, when I was 6, was so incredible and memorable firstly because Jeff Amsden gave me a yellow envelope even though I could barely catch onto any of the combinations. After that first convention all I thought about was when I could go again; I was completely hooked. My sincere thanks to Mr. Joe Tremaine for this incredible honor and opportunity, and to all the Tremaine faculty for their individual support of me which helps and inspires me to work harder and be authentically me!
TopFlight Dance Company
My name is Kendall Moshay, I am 13 years old and I‘m from Houston, Texas. I started my dance journey at the age of three at my home studio, TopFlight Dance Company under the direction of Mrs. Jonnesha Hawkins-Minter. I am so appreciative of the guidance and training that she continues to give me. I joined company at TopFlight at the age of 6 and Tremaine happened to be my very first convention ever. I train heavily in all genres but my favorite genre is jazz. I am now a member of the TopFlight Dance Conservatory where every aspect of performing arts is fostered, emphasized, and studied technically and intellectually. When I am not dancing, I am doing school work, arts and crafts, playing the clarinet, spending time with my family, or learning acro. I am extremely excited and honored to be the Tremaine Teen Dancer of the Year for its 40th season. I can’t wait to inspire, tour, train, and grow with some of the best instructors in the industry!
The Future Dance Center
Gino & Denise Vaccaro
My name is Kailer Germany and I am 10 years old. I am so honored and excited to have been chosen as Tremaine’s 2020-21 Junior Male Dancer of the Year. This past season was my very first time attending a Tremaine convention and I loved everything about it. The teachers are all so amazing, the classes were awesome, and all of the other dancers were so great and supportive! I started dancing at a ballet school from ages seven-nine but really wanted to try other styles as well. Last year, I started training at The Future Dance Center under the direction of Gino and Denise Vaccaro where I train in all styles of dance. I have an identical twin brother, Kamdin, and an older sister, Amari, who dance at Future also. I love that me and my siblings share the same passion for dance and get to spend a lot of time together dancing. When I am not dancing, I love to play hockey, swim, make videos, and spend time with my family and dogs. When I grow up, I would like to be a professional dancer or a director. I want to give a special thanks to my teachers, especially Mr. Gino and Ms. Denise for all of their love and support. Thank you so much to Mr. Joe Tremaine and all of the Tremaine faculty for choosing me as DOTY and giving me this amazing opportunity. I am looking forward to this upcoming year and I am excited to learn, grow, and dance with all of you! If you see me at a convention, feel free to say hi but I can’t guarantee you that it will be me and not my twin brother!
Mather Dance Company
Hello! My name is McKinley Cunningham (Kinley), and I am nine years old. I attend Mather Dance Company, in Placentia, California, training under the direction of Shannon Mather. I started dancing when I was two and competing when I was five. I attended my first Tremaine when I was seven. Going to Tremaine and getting to know and learn from their faculty, is one of the reasons I love dance so much. I love all styles of dance, but my favorites are Jazz and Hip Hop. My goal is to become a working industry dancer and choreographer. I also have a dream of working as a teacher at Tremaine one day. I have so many people that I appreciate it my life. My family and friends for all supporting me on this amazing journey and my studio for supporting me and helping to shape me into the dancer I am today. It was a dream come true becoming Junior Dancer of the Year. Anyone who knows me, knows my love for all things Tremaine. Thank you so much to all the faculty and to the legend himself, Mr. Joe Tremaine for this life changing opportunity. I am truly grateful and extremely blessed to now be among so many other talented dancers who can call themselves Tremaine DOTY’s. Dance is my absolute passion. I am so excited to experience this next year, learning and growing and sharing what I love to do most with everyone at Tremaine. I am Team Tremaine for life!
