Tremaine Dance is thrilled to announce our 2019 Tremaine Outstanding Contribution to Dance Award recipients, NICK FLOREZ & RJ DURELL. Mr. Florez & Mr. Durell will receive their award at our National Finals Gala, July 10, 2019, at the Renaissance Orlando at SeaWorld.
Nick & RJ have made a career of working with icons including P!nk, Katy Perry, Madonna, Ariana Grande, Dua Lipa, Britney Spears, Janet Jackson, Beyonce, and Cher. Their union sparks diversity ranging from the worlds of ballet and Broadway, to music videos, world tours, film, and television. Three time World Choreography award winners, their work has also become iconic including P!nk’s gravity defying performance at the American Music Awards in which the side of a skyscraper became the dance floor for an aerial ballet, the “most watched” Super Bowl halftime show of all time starring Katy Perry, Lenny Kravitz, & Missy Elliott, P!nk’s “Try” music video which Billboard categorized as one of the most iconic dance videos of the 21st century, and Katy Perry’s Dark Horse music video which has garnered over 2 billion views.
A passion for melding pop performance with cutting edge theatrics has led Nick & RJ to work on world tours including Madonna (Confessions Tour, Sticky & Sweet Tour), P!nk (Beautiful Trauma Tour, The Truth About Love Tour), Katy Perry (Prismatic Tour, California Dreams Tour), Cirque Du Soleil (Immortal Michael Jackson Tour), Ricky Martin (MAS Tour), Spice Girls (The Reunion Tour), Celine Dion (Taking Chances Tour), Keyshia Cole (A Different Me Tour), and festival tours for Brett Young, Rachel Platten, Haley Steinfeld, and Selena Gomez. Both the Prismatic Tour and The Truth About Love Tour were awarded Pollstar’s “Most Creative Production” award. Nick and RJ can also be seen in Katy Perry’s feature film Part of Me, a documentary capturing the behind the scenes creation and live performances from the California Dreams Tour.
Nick & RJ made their music video directorial debut with their own mini-movie-musical for P!nk’s Beautiful Trauma featuring Channing Tatum, receiving rave reviews from the likes of Variety, Rolling Stone, Billboard, and Entertainment Weekly. For Disneyland’s 60th Anniversary Special on ABC, they re-imagined “Step In Time” from Mary Poppins featuring Dick Van Dyke and Derek Hough. RJ choreographed the original LA production of Rock of Ages, and together, they choreographed For The Records BAZ: Star Crossed Love, a mashup musical of Baz Lurhman’s films, and Scorsese: American Crime Requiem at the Wallis.
As creative producers, Nick & RJ’s innovative direction can be seen on television shows including The Billboard Music Awards, Country Music Awards, Radio Disney Music Awards, VH1 Divas, CMA Christmas, and XQ Super School Live! including performances by Mariah Carey, Paula Abdul, Kesha, Adam Lambert, Kelly Rowland, Fitz & The Tantrums, Thomas Rhett, Fallout Boy, Salt N Pepa, John Legend, Kelly Clarkson, Kelsea Ballerini, Jennifer Hudson, Sofia Carson, Jordan Fisher, Jennifer Nettles, and Lindsey Stirling. Their work has also been featured on Dancing With The Stars, So You Think You Can Dance, The Grammy Awards, VMAs, Brit Awards, MTV Movie Awards, American Idol, and America’s Best Dance Crew. Nick & RJ’s journey to LA began with the golden ticket: a month scholarship to Joe Tremaine’s studio in North Hollywood. Nick then did a year long scholarship, and the rest (so far) is history…
